At Flying Woks, we take dietary requirements and food allergies very seriously. One of the most common questions we receive from event organisers is regarding shellfish allergies — specifically, whether our dishes contain shrimp paste or shrimp products.
We recently received a great question from a customer organising an upcoming event:
“I was wondering if you use any shrimp products in the meals we have ordered? We’ve just had one guest advise us that they are allergic.”
The customer had ordered a selection of five popular dishes from our menu. We are pleased to confirm that none of these dishes contain shrimp paste or any shrimp products — and importantly, these are just a few examples from our much wider range of shrimp-paste-free dishes. The vast majority of the Flying Woks menu is free from shrimp paste, making our catering an excellent choice for groups with shellfish allergy concerns.
The Menu Breakdown
Here is the breakdown of the specific dishes in question — just a sample of the many shrimp-paste-free options available across our full menu:
- Vegetarian Pad Satay (0228M) — Garlic, ginger, coriander, seasonal vegetables, and authentic Hong Kong satay served with rice noodles. (Gluten-Free, Vegetarian, Vegan)
- Chicken Tom Yum (0257M) — Our popular stir-fry version of a Thai classic with tenderised chicken, chilli, lemongrass, and galangal with vegetables.
- Vegetarian Kaeng Kari (0288M) — Seasonal vegetables with ginger, coconut, and mild yellow curry with bok choy, coriander, mushrooms, and steamed jasmine rice. (Dairy-Free, Nut-Free, Gluten-Free, Vegetarian, Vegan)
- Chicken Masala (0502M) — Pieces of chicken cooked in a creamy tomato sauce with a blend of spices and fresh garlic, mixed with mushroom and onion. (Dairy-Free, Nut-Free, Gluten-Free, Wheat-Free, Halal)
- Beef Teriyaki (0206M) — Beef strips marinated in ginger, onion, mirin, and soy sauce, served with green vegetables and steamed rice. (Dairy-Free, Nut-Free, Halal)
While shrimp paste is a traditional ingredient in some authentic Asian curries and pastes, we have carefully designed the vast majority of our recipes to exclude it — without compromising on the rich, bold flavours you expect from Flying Woks. The five dishes listed above are simply examples; there are many more shrimp-paste-free options across our Chinese, Thai, Indian, Japanese, and Middle Eastern menus. This ensures our catering is as inclusive as possible for large groups with diverse dietary needs.
If you are planning an event and have guests with specific allergies, simply let our team know during the booking process. We can guide you through our menu to ensure everyone is safely and deliciously catered for.
